Biomimetic restorative dentistry seeks to reproduce the biomechanical, structural, and esthetic integrity of natural teeth by extending biomimetic principles to the macrostructural level. This approach prioritizes pulp vitality, periodontal health, and maximal conservation of healthy tissues through microinvasive techniques and high magnification. Bonded, additive restorations guided by strict adhesive protocols replace traditional retention concepts. Treatment decisions are based on scientific evidence, clinical experience, and patient-centered considerations, with esthetics viewed as secondary to function, prevention, and long-term tooth survival, emphasizing repair over replacement.
Dr. Pascal Magne (pronounced mahn-ya) recently joined Beverly Hills Dental Lab as Director of its Center for Education and Research in Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry (CER BRD), after a long and distinguished career in dental academia and research.
Upon graduating from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in 1989 with a Med Dent degree,he was offered a position as a lecturer at the dental school, while practicing and receiving further training in fixed prosthodontics and other technical skills. At the same time, he pursued two doctorates, one awarded in 1992 (DMD) and the other in 2002 (Ph.D.), the latter in conjunction with co-authoring the book Bonded Porcelain Restorations in the Anterior Dentition, A Biomimetic Approach, with his mentor, Professor Urs Belser, which has been translated into 12 languages. «The biomimetic principle refers to using technology and dental materials to preserve and replicate the structure and function of teeth» he explained.
He would add to his research on dental innovations at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1997-1999, before returning to Geneva. His discoveries have been widely published, resulting in many awards.
Before his graduation from dental school, Pascal had been captivated by the beautiful photos of the lifelike porcelain restorations created by his older brother, Michel, who was the in-house technician for a dentist.
In 1991, Pascal started working with Claude Sieber using a new dental porcelain developed with Vita. It was a turning point. «For the first time I could see the porcelain of a master inside of the mouth of my own patients» he said.
Pascal was recruited as a full-time tenured faculty of the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California School in 2004, as the Don and Sybil Harrington Professor of Esthetic dentistry. During his tenure at Ostrow, Dr. Magne spearheaded a multitude of curricular innovations in the areas of biomimetics, minimally invasive dentistry, and bonding techniques. His scholarly activity during his years there yielded over 100 peer-reviewed publications and over 200 continuing education programs nationally and internationally.
As the preclinical director (2012-2020) of the Dental Morphology, Function and Esthetics module at Ostrow, Dr. Magne has also developed an innovative approach to teaching dental anatomy and morphology. In 2021, Dr. Magne published the second edition of his bestselling book entitled Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry. It has already been translated into several languages.
After 33 years in the Academia, Dr. Magne eagerly accepted the exciting opportunity of the CER BRD educational programs offered by Beverly Hills Dental Laboratory last year.
During this lecture, we will explore the detailed steps involved in handling complex full arch implant-supported cases, from mounting the initial situation on an articulator to the final delivery.
We will examine the revolution digital dentistry has brought to the field, transforming the way these cases are managed today. Initially, we will cover the traditional and analogue processes of data collection, transfer, design, and delivery of such cases. Then, we will re-examine and perform the same case in a fully digital format. This comparison will not only reinforce the
fundamental knowledge required to execute these cases but also highlight the significant advantages of today's latest digital technologies in enhancing the same process. We will see how photography, digital intraoral and implant scanners, and a fully digital laboratory workflow have changed our approach to these cases

Sam Alawie, MDT, earned his Master Dental Technician (MDT) degree in Brussels, Belgium, in 1994. Upon graduating with his school's highest academic distinction, he was invited to complete advanced training at Ivoclar in Liechtenstein.
In 2003, Sam relocated to the United States, where he developed a deep understanding of the esthetic expectations of an increasingly diverse patient population. Inspired by a commitment to uncompromising quality, he founded Beverly Hills Dental Laboratory in 2006, assembling a team of master technicians dedicated to delivering exceptional craftsmanship and world-class esthetic outcomes.
His expertise and commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration quickly earned national recognition. In 2008, Sam joined the faculty at the USC School of Dentistry as a Visiting Instructor, where he co-taught hands-on full-arch rehabilitation workshops. In 2009, he was invited to serve as a Key Opinion Leader for Nobel Biocare, and in 2012, he became Visiting Faculty at the UCLA School of Dentistry, co-instructing its Implant and Esthetic Continuum.
Recognized as a leader in dental technology, Sam has been featured in numerous dental publications for his contributions to the profession. His work emphasizes the critical role of technical-clinical communication in predictable treatment planning, restorative excellence, and optimal patient outcomes.
An active educator and international lecturer, Sam has taught hands-on crown and bridge programs and presented throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. He also serves as President of the Aesthetic Excellence Study Club, fostering collaboration and continuing education among dental professionals.
In 2014, Sam established a state-of-the-art education center dedicated to advancing restorative dentistry through immersive, hands-on learning. The facility was created as a collaborative environment where dentists, dental technicians, specialists, and students could refine their skills, exchange ideas, and pursue excellence through comprehensive continuing education.
In 2020, Willi Geller of the Oral Design Foundation in Switzerland invited Sam to join the prestigious Oral Design Family. He has since become an Associate Member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and an Affiliate Member of the Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics.
Building on nearly three decades of clinical and laboratory experience, Sam founded Magne Education in 2022, a globally recognized continuing education organization dedicated to advancing excellence in esthetic and restorative dentistry. As CEO, he continues to unite world-renowned educators and passionate clinicians through innovative, science-based educational programs that elevate the standard of patient care worldwide.

After completing his bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, Dr. Razaghy dedicated a year to intensive research in neurosurgery, contributing to six major publications at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Driven by his passion for innovation and research, Dr. Razaghy continued his journey in dentistry, actively participating in diverse research projects. His foray into dental research commenced with his collaboration in Dr. Pascal Magne’s research laboratory at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. Since then, alongside his teaching, Mehrdad has been extensively involved in numerous projects, collaborating with international visiting scholars under the guidance of Dr. Pascal Magne. His primary focus lies in biomimetic and minimally invasive restorative techniques, as well as advancements in dental materials.
Dr. Razaghy is a distinguished member of the international group known as the Bioemulation and has contributed to publications in reputable journals such as the Journal of Dental Materials and the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry. He practices general and restorative dentistry at Mehrdad Razaghy DDS Inc., a private practice located in Beverly Hills. Additionally, Dr. Razaghy is an active international lecturer, imparting knowledge through various continuing education modules in biomimetic dentistry, dental photography, additive dentistry, digital smile design, rubber dam isolation, and bonded porcelain ceramic restorations. As a Clinical Director at Magne Education, Dr. Raz is involved in patient demonstration during Magne Education hands-on courses.
Michel Magne is a renowned master ceramist and expert in the art and science of aesthetic dentistry. An internationally sought-after speaker and educator, he lectures and teaches at some of the top dental schools both in the U.S. and abroad, including UCLA, University of Southern California, New York University, University of Geneva, and the University of Barcelona in Spain.
Michel received his dental technician certification in 1979 in his home country of Switzerland. He specializes in aesthetic rehabilitations and bonded porcelain restorations, and has published extensively on these topics.
Before co-founding Beverly Hills Dental Laboratory, Michel was an associate professor of clinical dentistry and director of the Center for Dental Technology at the USC. He also ran his own laboratory, 901 Oral Design, in Marina del Rey. Prior to that, he spent 12 years as the owner and director of the Oral Design Center at the Dental Laboratory in Montreux, Switzerland.
Contemporary aesthetic dentistry relies increasingly on interdisciplinary coordination rather than isolated procedures. Predictable outcomes depend on establishing a shared design reference that aligns prosthodontics, orthodontics, surgery, and soft-tissue management before treatment begins.
This lecture presents a design-first digital workflow in which simulation evolves into an integrated decision-making tool. Artificial intelligence is discussed as an augmenting layer: supporting visual analysis, pattern recognition, and communication, while preserving clinician authorship and responsibility. Clinical examples demonstrate how integrated planning improves coherence, reduces fragmentation, and enhances predictability in complex aesthetic cases.

Dr. Att is a professor of prosthodontics at the Department of Prosthodontics at School of Dentistry, University of Freiburg, Germany and former Professor and Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is the co-founder of The Face Dental Group in Boston. Also, Dr. Att is the Head of the United States Education Delegate of The International Team for Implantology (ITI) and the United States Ambassador of The European Association for Osseointegration (EAO). He is a board-certified prosthodontist from the German Society of Prosthodontics and Biomaterials (DGPro) an active member of multiple professional organizations, including the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED), International Academy of Digital Dental Medicine, International College of Prosthodontists, Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics and others. He serves as Past-President of the International
Academy for Digital Dental Medicine (IADDM), Past-President of the Prosthodontics Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) as well as President of the Arabian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (ARAED). A widely published and internationally respected clinician and lecturer, Dr. Att’s main focus within teaching, research and private practice is esthetic and implant dentistry as well as well as the implementation of cutting-edge digital technologies in both reconstructive and multidisciplinary dentistry.
Growth happens at different rates for many clinicians. We will discuss how it happened quickly from a recent dental graduate to rising dental figure in the field of esthetic dentistry. This presentation will focus on the importance of a comprehensive smile and facial analysis to comprehensively treatment plan and properly create the ideal smile design. It is important to understand when to properly incorporate the analog and digital workflow to achieve consistent patient results and satisfaction.
Additional discussions include long-term case success via conservative treatment, interdisciplinary dentistry, and proper restorative ceramic material selection. Dental Photography plays an important role in not just lab communication but also smile evaluation. As such we will learn how to deliver consistent full-face portrait and intraoral photos.
Dr. Mo Badwan is a renowned aesthetic dentist in South Florida known for his minimally invasive approach to cosmetic dentistry. He applies comprehensive and biomimetic principles to every smile makeover, creating facially driven, natural-looking smiles tailored to each individual patient.
A passionate and caring clinician, Dr. Mo has been invited to speak at dental conferences and institutions around the world, where he shares his expertise on modern aesthetic techniques.
Dr. Mo earned his Master in Aesthetic Dentistry from the prestigious Aesthetic Advantage Program at the Rosenthal Institute NYU, where he is now a junior instructor. He further advanced his skills through a mini-residency in Biomimetic Dentistry at the Magne Institute in Beverly Hills, California.
Originally from Michigan, Dr. Mo earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine, where he also founded the NSU Cosmetic Society.

Dr August de Oliveira graduated from dental school in 1997 from the University of Washington and completed his General Practice Residency in Los Angeles in 1998. Dr de Oliveira has been lecturing on 3D technology since 2004, when he started as a CEREC Basic Trainer. With Digital Enamel, Dr de Oliveira has been teaching advanced CEREC courses since 2005. Since 2008 he has been involved with Implant Direct’s R and D department developing Guided Surgery Software and Hardware and testing their CAD Milled Bars and Substructure Department. Dr de Oliveira is a alpha and a beta tester for numerous other companies such as Sprintray, Formlabs, Desktop Health, Asiga, Akuretta, VHF, 3Shape, Exocad, Blue Sky Bio, Tru Abutment, and 3DIIthe makers of Dentiq Guide.
Dr de Oliveira has written three books on Dentistry: Implants Made Easy, Dental 3D Printing Made Easy and Guided Implantology Made Easy. He has been involved with beta testing Sirona’s Sidexis Program, as well as developing the Opti and CEREC Milled Surgical Guides. Dr. Tiffani Dunn DMD, AAACD is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and has proudly called Kona,
Hawai‘i, her home ever since. She is a Kois Center Graduate, the first woman in Hawai‘i to earn this
distinction, and an Accredited Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a designation held
by fewer than 400 dentists worldwide.
Dr. Dunn completed her biomimetic continuum and serves as visiting faculty with Magne Education. Her work
has been published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry as well as other respected dental journals. She is
Hawai‘i’s Key Opinion Leader for Ivoclar and the only female Ambassador for The Dental Advisor.
Dr. Dunn is passionate about dental and creative photography and enjoys lecturing to colleagues on topics
that elevate both clinical excellence and artistry in dentistry.
CAD/CAM technology continues to transform restorative dentistry, offering efficient, patient- centered workflows through intraoral scanning and chairside or laboratory-based manufacturing.
A wide range of restorative materials, including ceramics, composite resins, metals, and hybrid materials, are now available through subtractive (milling) processes. However, the mechanical, optical, and physical properties of CAD/CAM materials may differ from those fabricated using
conventional techniques, influencing their clinical performance and longevity. This course provides an evidence-based overview of contemporary CAD/CAM restorative materials, with emphasis on understanding material properties, manufacturing methods, and clinical indications.
- Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- 1 Classify the current spectrum of CAD/CAM restorative materials available for clinical use.
- 2 Compare the mechanical and optical properties of CAD/CAM materials with natural tooth structure and conventionally fabricated restorations.

TAY-see-er SU-la-men is a Tenured Associate Professor and the Director of the Advanced Operative Dentistry and Biomaterials at the Adams School of Dentistry, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his clinical certificate in Operative Dentistry and his PhD in Dental Materials from the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterial Sciences at the University of Turku in Finland in collaboration with the Department of Operative Dentistry at UNC.
Dr. Sulaiman is a wet-handed clinician and a researcher who is passionate about bridging the gap between dental research and clinical application. Dr. Sulaiman’s research focus is on maximizing the clinical relevance of in vitro testing. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He is a fellow of the International College of Dentists and a member of many academies, including the prestigious American Academy of Restorative Dentistry and the Academy of Operative Dentistry.
He serves as the clinical and scientific ambassador for the Dental Advisor. He has presented on numerous national and international stages and serves as a reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals.
The role of the ceramist in the delivery of highly esthetic ceramic restorations has been significantly and forever altered by the increased development and evolution of digitally created restorations. Machines can do an adequate esthetic result for posterior teeth but to date cannot duplicate the varied layers of translucencies and colors that are necessary for acceptable esthetics in anterior teeth, especially if a single or only two teeth need to be replaced.
This lecture introduces a concept called the “DIGITAL DENTAL TEAM” DDT for short. The concept DDT incorporates digital processes in the esthetic anterior workflow but with an analog “final touch” to the restorations to create an ideal individualistic customization of the surface textures and surface color. The “team” consists of digital scanning technology, digital printing, the dentist, high strength glass ceramics, or translucent Zirconia, and a highly qualified technician who can apply the final artistic touch to make a believable restoration. Enamelizer or dental sculptor, terms I came up with to describe the person that applies the custom finish to the restoration, either texture, colorize, glaze and polish, or micro-layering porcelain and finish.
The lecture will explore optical scanning, digital designing, printing, shaping, and putting the final touch on milled veneers and other restorations. The lecture will also cover the esthetics of the individual tooth i.e., the individual form and color characteristics of teeth and the inter-relationships between teeth. A detailed 10-step process of finalizing indirect restorations will be a focus of the presentation.
Dr. McLaren is a Prosthodontist and Master Dental Ceramist. Dr McLaren is a retired Professor from both UCLA and UAB School of Dentistry, and an Honorary Professor at the University of Buenos Aires. He was founder and first director of the Post Graduate Esthetic Dentistry at the UCLA school of Dentistry. He was the director of the UCLA Center for Esthetic Dentistry, a full time didactic and clinical program for graduate dentists. He was also the founder and director of the UCLA/LACC Master Dental Ceramist program. The post-graduate program is a full-time master ceramist program for dental technicians featuring extensive experience with the newest esthetic restorative systems. At UAB he was founder and first director of the Advanced Dental Esthetics, founder director of the Advanced Dental Esthetics, Restorative & Biomaterials Program, founder and director 3-year advanced ceramics and digital technology for technicians program, founder and director one-year esthetic and restorative fellowship Restorative & Biomaterials Program, founder and director 3-year advanced ceramics and digital technology for technicians program, founder and director one-year esthetic and restorative fellowship.
Dr. McLaren currently is the CEO of ArtOral America a private teaching institute based in Park City Utah, he maintains a private practice limited to prosthodontics and esthetic dentistry in which he did all of his own ceramics.
Dr. McLaren is still actively involved in many areas of prosthodontic and materials research and has authored or co-authored over 110 articles. He has presented numerous lectures, hands-on clinics and postgraduate courses on ceramics and esthetics across the nation and internationally. He published a book, on his ceramic techniques and features dental photographic art, entitled “The Art of Passion: Ceramics, Teeth, Faces, and Places.” He is currently working on his second book “SURFACE” creating ideal surface finish and color in dental restorations.
Immediate dentin sealing (IDS) was originally proposed to improve dentin bonding in indirect restorations and can also be applied to endodontically treated teeth (ETT), either before or after root canal therapy. However, during the multiple clinical steps of endodontic and restorative procedures, sound tooth structure is often unnecessarily removed.
This presentation introduces a conservative protocol in which dentin hybridization and biobase formation are performed before root canal (re)treatment. This strategy aims to preserve healthy tooth structure while enhancing dentin bond strength and improving fracture resistance of restored teeth. The technique, termed Immediate Pre-Endodontic Dentin Sealing (IPDS), will be presented with its biological rationale, clinical workflow, and restorative implications, along with its benefits, limitations, and clinical considerations.
Advances in adhesive dentistry have transformed the restoration of ETT, shifting from cast post-and-core systems to fiber posts and, more recently, to postless approaches. While fiber posts reduce catastrophic failures, such failures remain a concern, prompting the development of biomimetic strategies focused on repairability rather than solely on material strength. This lecture will review current evidence on adhesive approaches for ETT with extensive coronal tissue loss and discuss alternatives to the traditional retention-and-resistance concept. The roles of ferrule design, post type, and postless solutions, such as endocrowns and postless build-ups, will be explored, highlighting emerging research supporting biomimetic restoration strategies, particularly for anterior teeth.
Dr. Marco Aurelio de Carvalho currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Adams School of Dentistry, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he desires to advance his clinical, research and teaching endeavors.
Dr. Marco Aurelio de Carvalho earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil, in 2010. He further advanced his expertise by obtaining a Master of Science in Prosthodontics from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) in 2013. In 2015, Dr. de Carvalho expanded his academic horizons as a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, under the mentorship of Professor Pascal Magne. There, he focused on the biomimetic restoration of endodontically treated teeth. In 2017, Dr. de Carvalho was awarded a PhD in Prosthodontics from Unicamp, Brazil. Following this, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Federal University of Goiás in 2018, where he concentrated on optimizing techniques for the adhesive rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth (ETT). His research interests are diverse, encompassing finite element analysis, bond strength, fracture, and fatigue resistance tests.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. de Carvalho has published over 35 articles in esteemed peer-reviewed journals and contributed to four book chapters, primarily focusing on the prosthetic rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth and implant-supported prostheses. Besides academia, Dr de Carvalho has practice in the Brazilian Center for Esthetic Dentistry in Goiania for more than 10 years, where he was responsible for the oral rehabilitation and biomimetic dentistry. Now he is a provider at the Dental Faculty Practice at UNC, serving the community in North Carolina.
In theory, our goal is to take a conservative approach to guiding patients toward desired clinical outcomes while preserving biology, promoting longevity, and optimizing the oral environment. In an age marked by an egregious appetite for instantaneous gratification and patient-driven misinformation, it is our responsibility to serve our patients with expert understanding and responsible recommendations that help them achieve their goals. This lecture will focus on minimally invasive preparation and provisional techniques that communicate a patient’s shared vision and translate it into predictable results, within accepted aesthetic limitations.
Dr. Brandon Mack, DDS, is a pioneering figure in the field of cosmetic dentistry and a leading advocate for
facially driven aesthetics. His groundbreaking work has positioned him as an emerging voice in the industry,
and his innovative approach is reshaping the standards of modern dentistry. Dr. Macks commitment to
excellence and his unwavering dedication to his craft have earned him widespread recognition and acclaim.
Dr. Macks educational journey laid the foundation for his illustrious career. He completed his
undergraduate studies at Xavier University of Louisiana, where he excelled academically and developed a
deep understanding of the fundamental principles of science and healthcare.
Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Mack pursued his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at
Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Dentistry, where he honed his clinical skills and acquired a

Throughout his academic and professional endeavors, Dr. Mack demonstrated a keen interest in the
intersection of dentistry and facial aesthetics. He recognized the interconnected nature of oral health, facial

dentistry. Driven by his vision to "change the face of dentistry," he embarked on a mission to elevate the

As a practicing dentist, Dr. Mack has distinguished himself through his innovative techniques and his unwavering

Accurate color matching remains one of the biggest challenges in esthetic dentistry: subjective, inconsistent, and difficult to communicate between clinicians and laboratories. This lecture introduces a paradigm shift in how esthetic information moves through the digital workflow.
The session demonstrates how Matisse AI eliminates guesswork and establishes a new standard for predictable, reproducible restorations. By treating appearance as engineered data rather than artistic interpretation, this approach fundamentally changes the relationship between design and fabrication.
The lecture explores AI-driven protocols for monolithic and layered restorations, and reveals the next evolution in digital dentistry: moving beyond manual esthetics to computed outcomes.
Marat Awdaljan is a dental ceramist with a passion for solving complex problems in esthetic dentistry. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1988 to Armenian parents, Marat moved to the Netherlands with his family in 1993, where he grew up. He completed his training at the Dental Technology school in 2010, receiving the best thesis award for his work on psychology in dental technology, entitled "Key to the future." At the age of 21, Marat was awarded the title of Master Dental Technician and began working at the dental laboratory "Natuurlijk! Tandtechniek" in Veenendaal. In 2012, he completed his training as a Clinical Dental Technician, and one year later, he became the manager and co- owner of the laboratory where he remained until 2020.
During this period, Marat traveled worldwide to meet the Masters in Dentistry, broadening his knowledge and seeking answers to persistent challenges in the field. The interviews he conducted are published in Labline Magazine.
In 2019, Marat founded MATISSE AI, a software company that offers solutions in shade matching. As the technology evolves, it expands into esthetic data and digital workflows. Marat also lectures and teaches courses worldwide, sharing his expertise and the ongoing development of these solutions with dental professionals.

Dr. Alina Krivitsky Aalam graduated with a BS in Dental Hygiene, DDS and a Certificate in Advanced Periodontics from the USC School of Dentistry. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology and Implant Dentistry. She is a Fellow of International College of Dentists and of American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry.
Society of Periodontology and USC Research Committee awarded Dr. Krivitsky Aalam for her outstanding achievement and contribution to the field of Periodontics. Dr. Krivitsky Aalam is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC in the department of Advanced Periodontics and a lecturer for the Dental Hygiene program. She is on a committee for Friends of Dentistry and serves on the Board of Councilors. Dr. Krivitsky serves as an expert advisor for he “Surviving Beautifully” book and online source dedicated to helping others with beauty issues during and after a cancer fight.
Dr. Krivitsky maintains a private practice limited to Periodontics and Reconstructive Implant Dentistry in Brentwood, California and lectures nationally and internationally.

Dr. Aalam graduated with a DDS degree from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, Nice (France). He, subsequently, specialized in Advanced Periodontics at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles (USA). Dr. Aalam is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology and a Fellow of the International College of Dentist. The French Society and the California Society of Periodontology awarded Dr. Aalam for his contribution to clinical research in the field of implant dentistry. Dr. Aalam is a Clinical Associate Professor at the USC School of Dentistry in the department of Advanced Periodontics. In 2012, Dr. Aalam was appointed as the USC dental school representative on the Board of Governor and in 2019 as a member of the Board of Counselor. He maintains a private practice in Los Angeles limited to Periodontics and Reconstructive Implant Dentistry. Dr. Aalam lectures and publishes in the field of dental implant and site development procedures
The progressive shift towards ceramic materials and digital workflows is obvious. The goal is to
deliver long-lasting restorations and be efficient in procedures. Digital technologies have
predictable outcomes in single-unit dentistry, but is it as reliable for complex full-mouth
rehabilitations? With the increase of life expectancy and surge in generalized severe wear more
patients are in need of these complex inter-disciplinary treatments where occlusal schemes are
re-established. Occlusal concepts have always been paramount for long-term successful outcome
of restorations. Is occlusion still relevant? The lecture will overview fundamentals of occlusion
and investigate its relevancy in ceramic materials and digital approaches.
Objectives
• To go over material and treatment choices for complex cases.
• To explain fundamentals of occlusion and its role in treating complex cases.
• To present current literature of occlusion in digital workflows.
• To present recent clinical evidence evaluating the effect of adjustments on the survival rates of ceramic materials.
Dr. Mariam Margvelashvili-Malament is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics.
She holds Ph.D. degree in Dental Materials from the University of Siena, Italy, and Certificate of
Specialty in Prosthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM).
Dr. Margvelashvili-Malament has published up to 50 articles and abstracts. She is a fellow of the
ACP, GNYAP and an Associate Fellow of the AP. She practices at Boston Prosthodontics and serves as adjunct professor at TUSDM Division of Post-Graduate Prosthodontics.
