BIOMIMETIC POSTERIOR COMPOSITES From Fundamentals to Deep Margin Elevation
IN A NUTSHELL: This hands-on course teaches dentists how to perform predictable, biomimetic posterior composite restorations, from small Class I cavities to large Class II cases. It covers tooth morphology, caries removal, bonding, shrinkage-stress management, layering, sandwich techniques, and SFRC composites, with a strong focus on natural esthetics and function. The course concludes with the theory and practical application of deep margin elevation (DME) for challenging deep carious lesions.
Direct resin composite restorations in posterior teeth are the daily bread of most dental practices. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach; rather, a wide range of clinical applications requires a thorough understanding of materials, techniques, and indications. This module provides the scientific and clinical foundations for predictable resin bonding and the management of polymerization shrinkage stress, together with practical methods for natural layering and achieving optimal esthetic and functional outcomes. The lectures will begin with a concise review of posterior tooth biomechanics and morphology, including realistic tooth-drawing exercises. A thorough introduction to the required armamentarium and step-by-step clinical protocols, supported by extensive visual aids, will be complemented by an in-depth exploration of caries removal techniques, bonding strategies, and composite placement methods. The course is designed to equip clinicians to address the full range of indications encountered in a biomimetic private practice while discovering the satisfaction of creating restorations that are virtually “invisible” and remarkably natural in appearance. During the hands-on sessions, participants will learn to restore small, medium, and large Class I and Class II cavities using a variety of approaches, including sandwich techniques and short-fiber-reinforced composite (SFRC) resins. The course will conclude with both the theoretical principles and practical application of deep margin elevation (DME) an essential technique for managing teeth with very deep subgingival caries and, in selected cases, avoiding extraction and facilitating their restoration.
Who should attend: New and experienced dentists and extended function dental assistants.
